Dr. Anil Zankar

Anil Zankar is an alumnus of FTII (1979) and has won two National Awards for Scriptwriting and Critical Writing on cinema. He has made 22 short films on social issues and institutions, bio-pics, and corporate themes. He is a filmmaker, writer, and teacher with forty years of professional experience. He is a historian of cinema. Anil has attended seminars on international cinema, has presented papers at international conferences (Poland, 2006; Japan, 2014), and has been invited as a visiting scholar by the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (Shimla, 2014). He has taught in FTII as well as several media and other institutes and universities. He introduced the Film Course for IB in India and designed the Mass Media Studies Course for CBSE. He has published two books on cinema and has contributed chapters to international publications. Anil served as the Dean of FLAME School of Communication, at FLAME University, Pune. He has been on the Jury of IFFI, Goa, and MIFF 20. He has recently completed a documentary film on Prof. Jayant Narlikar for Sahitya Akademi. Since 2017, he has been teaching as a Visiting Faculty in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune. At present, he is working on a book on Mumbai city as seen in Indian films, and on a feature-length documentary on the life of the eminent scientist Dr. M. S. Swaminathan.
