Indian musical traditions have diversity and pluralism as an embedded feature and that one needs to be aware of the larger musical reality. The most common and widely used definition is the one given by Pt. Sharngadeva, “Geetam Vaadyam Tatha Nrityam, Trayam Sangeetamuchyate,” meaning, music has a three aspects namely, Geetam (Vocal music), Vaadyam (Instrumental music) and Nrityam (Dance). This definition throws light on the performing aspect of the music-making that Indians conceived however how it unfolds on the conceptual plane is not completely clear. This course shall help viewers to understand Indian music better by becoming knowledgeable listeners, get acquainted with the musical concepts and appreciate a musical performance.

Dr. Sameer Dublay

Dr. Sameer Dublay is a Professional vocalist in Hindustani Classical Music tradition. He has learnt basics from Pandit Rambhau Mate from the year 1978 to 1988 and went on to take advanced training in performance theory and technique with Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, one of the great masters of Agra Gharana in 1989. Later on from 2000 till 2011 he learnt music with Dr. Ashok D. Ranade, the great Musician and musicologist. He topped University of Pune at Graduation and Post graduation both in Politics and he also went on to become a top ranker in Masters in Music as well. He is a Qualified University Lecturer in Music after passing National Eligibility Test (NET), conducted by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. He has a Ph.D. in Music from SOPVA, IGNOU New Delhi.
